To be fair, I didn't see it, but I laugh every time it comes up. Oh, Tree of Life. I sincerely hope someday it turns out that Malick was trolling the arthouse cinema, and just cobbled together random bits of footage from his editing studio which certainly seems to be what Sean Penn and Brad Pitt think happened.

Sean Penn did an interview with a French paper, Le Figaro, I think it was, where he said that he was annoyed that most of the scenes he shot were cut from Tree of Life, and Brad Pitt did a pre-Oscars Daily Show where he specifically requested to talk about Moneyball rather than The Tree of Life, because iirc, "I don't know what to say about that movie".

I don't remember which interview it was, but I laughed so hard when I heard Sean Penn's reaction to seeing the film. Apparently his idea of it from filming and what he read in the script was completely different from what Malick showed on screen.
