[SUPER LAME] When I get really fond of a TV show and start watching it all the time I almost feel like they are my friends. Not ones who interact with me, obviously (although maybe, one day... I'm friends with NPH's cousin) but ones that I can laugh and cry with and enjoy all their antics. It was the same when I was really into Friends. HIMYM pulled me out of what could have been a really dark place in my life and I'm really happy. :')

Oh my yes, HIMYM singlehandedly pulled me out of a depression/crisis that I'm pretty sure could have turned really, really nasty. The show, like, kind of completely rearranged my view on life. Sounds silly I know but really it just made me see things from a different angle, and I did the rest.

You're not super lame! I totally know what it's like to feel that way about fictional characters :)

Ah, so you know how I feel. Yes, I just love that HIMYM manages to make you feel so happy in life even when it covers really dark issues. I've always felt connected to it (my dad was diagnosed with cancer the same month Marshall's dad died). It made me really appreciate all the small things in life and if I had never discovered it I don't know what my mental state would be right now. :')

That's so sad about your dad :( I don't know how I'd be able to watch that episode if something like that happened.

I've always kind of interpreted the story as, like, all the things that happens to you, even the bad things, are part of the story of your life so far and you'd do well to make it a story your kids will want to hear :) Makes you really appreciate all the little details.
