The next person that compares it to Battle Royale is getting kicked in the fucking throat. I'm hardly invested in the series, but when it comes to criticisms, this is the one I'm the most sick of seeing. I honestly think half you people are just parroting what you've heard.

I'd argue there's more to the comparison than that.

Both Battle Royale and the Hunger Games rely on tension and action to propel the plot — especially the tension between humans who get thrown into a terrible situation and can't afford to really trust one another. Both these stories share that core mechanism but, in my opinion, only one of them really pulls off the tension and horror of that situation.

This forever. Yes, the premise is similar, but what each work does with it is different enough that I have no trouble believing Collins when she said she was inspired by the Iraq War, reality television and Roman gladiatorial games, and never even heard of BR until she turned in her first manuscript. Believe it or not, it's possible for two people in two different cultures to come up with similar ideas to each other without knowing about it.
