It's definitely overhyped, and the LA premiere proved that the fans are at least somewhat as insane, but I definitely think the writing's better and the themes are more mature. And the movie is allegedly a lot better, so hopefully it'll be a better class of nuttiness. But IDK. I like the books a lot and I'm excited for the movie, but for the most part I'm staying out of the fandom. Too much canon!shipping, for one thing--where the hell is the Katniss/Johanna fic?!

Isn't that almost always the case with the girlslash though?

Personally, I'm way more intrigued by the gen possibilities in this particular fandom. Alternate POVs, past Hunger Games, fics explaining how Panem got so fucked up in the first place or even just what life is like in most of the other districts. I'm perfectly happy to let Katpee stand and explore the other possibilities that were precluded by Collins' narrative choices.

Yessssss this exactly. :D I would read/write/discuss that shit all. day. I have no problem with the canon or the canon-shipping, but to me it's kind of like going to Disney World to look at the pavement. I can look at pavement anywhere; I want to see the shiny interesting stuff that we can only get in this universe!

There is too much canon shipping!!
People hate me for liking Cinna/Katniss, are actually disgusted by it, but what can I do about it? I am so disappointed by the lack of fic. I have hopes that the movies will inspire some fic, though, as the fandom becomes more popular.
It's really hard to find fic of any pairing that isn't Katniss/Peeta or Katniss/Gale, so it's not just femslash. Hopefully with the movie that will change.
