Congratulations. You've discovered the problem everybody else has with that movie for the past 50 years! Cookie? ;-)

It's still a good movie, IMO. I mean, that fail aside, it shows two characters who really aren't good people, who you kind of like anyway in spite of it, and kind of why they're so screwed up. Although I will never not be pissed off at her for throwing the cat out in the end, and I will always like Peppard's character a little more for not abandoning it. (Yes, I'm one of those people who prefers to see the animals treated well, LOL.)

I think I once read that Audrey Hepburn was quoted saying that throwing the cat out was "the most distasteful thing she'd ever done" or something like that.

That looked just like the first cat I had out of college, and he disappeared and never came back one day, so I might have Some Feelings about him, LOL. Plus ... well, KITTY! Poor, wet, bedraggled kitty.
