OK I'm really on the fence with Dent.

Pro:
He's a breath of fresh air compared to 14 years of post Original Series!Brock
He has a great personality that bounces off everyone
His goal is unique
Mamoru Miyano

Cons:
He's the writer's pet.
He never loses a battle at all in the show
Most of his wins are asspulls(Most of his Pokemon suddenly knows new moves)

And the fandom are clearly biased towards him.

But I can't hate Dent at all.

Yeah.
Everytime I watch the show, I keep expecting him to start some kind of symmetry rant.

I do like him, I don't watch the anime much so I'm not aware of his battles, but he's nice and different from Brock. I loved Brock, but it was time to move on.

Playing devil's advocate here, but that's not entirely true--just recently (ALSO SPOILER WARNING) he lost in a battle against Skyla and in that picture of him dressed as Elesa, he loses the contest that was the entire point of him even wearing that outfit. Something I've noticed lately is that yes, while he does win a lot, he almost rarely ever actually comes out right on top: any tournament he's in, he's usually eliminated by the second round or so. Any time he battles clearly superior trainers like the Subway Masters or fellow Gym Leaders (again, Skyla as an example), he loses. Most of the time whenever he's shown winning a battle, it's against people like Burgundy and Trip, who are beginner trainers in comparison to himself, which vaguely makes sense since he's a Gym Leader and has more experience than they do when it comes to battling other trainers. Or Team Rocket, and that's because...well, the plot says the good guys are supposed to win after all.

Also the Pokemon learning new moves is explained as them having learned them most of the time upon evolution, which it shows what moves the Pokemon now knows upon evolving right in the pokedex (hence why Dwebble suddenly knew Rock Wrecker immediately upon having evolved into Crustle) ...in fact, not just Cilan, but Ash is guilty of this too since his Tranquill evolved into Unfezant and suddenly knew Air Cutter in order to win against Skyla's Swanna when it was earlier able to take down his Pikachu... :|b

You do have a good point though IMO his win streak is a bit annoying(Like how he single handily beat both Bel and Araragi in a double battle when Ash was knocked out. It was a Bel focused episode and apparently she can't even win an important Pokemon bonding battle....(though I grew to really dislike Bel TBH but that's another rant for another time))

But the Pokemon suddenly knowing new moves part I have to stick to my thoughts because well...yes it's explained that Pokemon learning new moves are equal to leveling up, however several times Dent's Pokemon just have new moves out of the blue(Dweeble suddenly has Rock Slide/Pansage suddenly has Rock Tomb) and it wasn't like "oh he just learned them right now". They acted like they had that move for a long time....

Ash's Unfezant already knew Air Cutter since she was Pidove. Actually She suddenly knew Wing Attack, a move she can't naturally learn....
