Ah OP just ignore the Stop-Having-Fun Guys. They suck the joy clean from life. Also the quote from Karen (ah...my nerd is showing that's the Dark Elite Four trainer for Jhoto but to be fair I did just replay Heart Gold) is absolutely correct. Train what you want and love them all the same.

Also I don't know what silly "strategy" you are going by. Have you never heard of the F.E.A.R. strategy? When played right it makes Rattata almost unstoppable. Also Quagsire is pretty formidable if trained up. And Zigzagoon has the awesome ability Pickup. Butterfree is worth the work if you're willing to train it, and well I hold a personal fondness for Nidoran♀ as a Nidoqueen was the first Pokemon I ever trained to level 100...I was not thrilled with my sister when she saved over THAT game file, let me tell you.
