You should really try more. (If you want.) One volume of each series won't tell you enough, since the characters develop afterwards.

I don't find anything "shallow" about her writing. .__. Sure, it's kind of corny and some things are predictable but they're shoujo. Shoujos are kind of like that.

At least one volume. With Angel Sanctuary, I stuggled through five. A lot of her series are only a few volumes long. And in those cases one volume should be more than enough to allow you to connect to the characters.

I love shoujo manga. It's practically all I read. ^^;; So that's definitely not the problem.

I went through 15 of Angel Sanctuary and couldn't find a SINGLE thing about it that was appealing. I read ALL of the Count Cain series (through the end of God Child) and read Kaine, and nearly all the stories had the exact same core:

*INCEST, A GAME THE WHOLE FAMILY CAN PLAY
*INCEST RUINS LIVES
*BUT LOVE WINS OUT IN THE END.

Plus, the panel coordination? Nonexistant. It's hard to tell which panel on the page you're supposed to read when everything's so convoluted. One character's got long flowy detailed hair AND wires growing out of him AND blood spewing out of him at the same time while he's going down a tree. It's a recipe for a very dizzy head.
