19. I dunno if you're only referring to people who get into petty arguments or BNFs, but... when you're old and grey, what's going to matter is not whether or not you had a "real" life or not but whether or not you're happy with the life you had. And if being into fandom in general (not in the elitist bitch way) makes someone happier than walking around the neighborhood and enjoying the "outside world"? Then yeah, they should stick with fandom instead of trying to conform to someone else's idea of "normal."
Of course, if you get bored with fandom and decide to leave it for things that seem more fulfilling, all the power to you in that case as well. I just don't think people should dictate what should be "real" to people who might have a completely different definition of it.
