Good point! And I know I'm looking at being thirteen through the eyes of adult me but from what I remember it's an age where you're able to realise at least a little that actions sometimes have very bad consequences. But I suppose being a psycho has no age limit either!

Sorry, but that scene makes me wince every time. Yes, Joffrey is a horrible sociopath. He is still a child, though. I don't think it is ever okay for an adult to slap a child.

Said child ordered far worse things done to other children and adults. I'm okay with him being slapped. Because really, slaps? Not that bad on the pain-o-meter, especially considering my first point. Also, in addition to being a horrible sociopath, Joffrey is the heir to throne (and by the end of the first book, is technically ON the throne), child or not. He, as a child, still has adult-like power over 99.5% of the populace... which then gets us back to the terrible, terrible things Joff the Child does to others.

Yes, Joffrey did worse. Yes, Joffrey is still a horrible, horrible person. But I still don't think that it is ever okay for an adult to hit a child. And the way people talk about this scene and glorify it makes me really, really uncomfortable. And your point about him having adult-like power may be true, but the person hitting him is his uncle who has power over him. So that point doesn't work in this case.

I guess I just can't think of Joffrey as a child by any definition that includes, e.g., "deserving of/needing protection." Can't really think of him as a child, period, really...

Of course not. Bad things happen in Westeros. I'm not complaining about it happening. I'm complaining about the fandom celebrating the abuse (both the child abuse in the case of Joffrey and the domestic abuse in the case of Cersei), making gifs of it, and acting like it is a good thing.
