Can't agree with you there. I think he's a nasty piece of work and I didn't even feel that bad when he got what was coming to him in book three. If they depict what he does to Sansa in book two in the series I can't see how anyone can come away thinking he's just got a problem with understanding....

oh man, no. I don't know if you've read the books, but I'm guessing no, cause....he's NOT trying to be the hero. He just likes to see people (and animals) in pain. His mother is indeed in denial about the true nature of her son but she DOES try to tell him that shit like that isn't the way to go, and he just doesn't listen, because he's king now and that means he gets to do whatever the fuck he wants as far as he's concerned

I find your attempt to find humanity even in a fucker like this truly admirable. But as complex and shades-of-grey as most of the characters in this series are, there really isn't a single redeeming quality about Joffrey. He's not an aspie, he ABSOLUTELY KNOWS what he's doing is wrong, he's just doing it anyway because he's sadistic and also a power-drunk little brat. Big difference

...Yeah, no, he's definitely not an "aspie-type." He's a sociopath. Admittedly he had a pretty fucked-up parental situation (...and is inbred), but then again, so did Gendry and Jon and them, and they turned out all right, so that ain't much of an excuse. It's fair that he'd be a crappy ruler, especially at that age, but just being utterly cruel and indifferent to human suffering? Nooooo.
