As others have pointed out, Pullman is an atheist. There's no conflict between atheism and enjoying the idea of what your daemon would be. As for me, I bet it would be a sloth...

Apart from being cute as hell, a sloth would be an enormously convenient daemon to have. You'd just slap it on your chest in the morning and walk around with it all day. And your blood pressure would be 90/60 all the time as a result.

Knowing me, I'd get a hummingbird and be freaking out and having to feed it sugar water all the time.
