Just do what I do: Ignore the endings in favor of your own headcanon.
It makes replaying the game(s) a lot better.

Or realize its nice and open ended so you can expand on it in your own head. Hooray imagination, you know that thing fandom does even when they don't hate the ending. They rewrite it a million different ways to better fit their own personal head canon.

The sheer flood of hate over the ending baffles me, I considered the entire game the ending and not the last 10 or so minutes, feels better that way even with the WTF moments. Though I suppose if it elicits that kind of reaction, good job to Biowares ME team.

But I also love Dragon Age 2 while acknowledging its problems so I guess that automatically makes my taste suspect according to some corners of the internets.

I'm confused. Where does the "or" come in here?

Personally I don't see it as open-ended because they explicitly showed the people in the far-flung future not having access to space travel, and Earth is fucked because it was pretty sparse on natural resources *before* the Reapers attacked and stranded half a dozen species with no transport to a reliable source of food. If the Mass Relays weren't destroyed, it would've been open-ended. Hell, without that last little stinger you might have had hope that people could rebuild the galactic civilization that was. Where is the openness now, though?

This. The ME universe hooked me on the thought of a vibrant galactic community with a slew of interesting characters and inter-species conflicts, including the overall focus of humanity finding their place in this established order. I see zero appeal in speculating on who dies first in a proverbial dark age where space travel might be realized once again in some future well beyond the already distant epilogue, assuming that it is even redeveloped at all.

This fan-made epilogue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG4EyfXOTJ4) actually made me able to play ME2 again. (I try not to think about the ending at all, otherwise the hopeless feeling of "what's the point?" returns :/)

Oh god I loved that Animal House fan ending. There's some other alternate edited endings on YouTube that help; this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZDDC7vhdug) is considerably closer to the ending I expected and wanted, Shepard dying at Anderson's side before the Crucible fires and wipes out the Reapers across the galaxy.

Oh, that was almost perfect! (It's amazing, how much getting rid of the explosing Mass Relays helps.)

Why is this a secret? Everybody hates the ending. Fuck, people raised 80,000 dollars (http://retakemasseffect.chipin.com/retake-mass-effect-childs-play) and donated it to Child's Play to try to gain Bioware's attention and have them change the endings. Amazon is offering total refunds on opened copies of the game, even collector's editions, because of how many complaints there are and how low the reviews are.

Bioware is going to be talking about the endings sometime in April, probably during PAX East. I'm betting they're going to release some shitty Dark Horse comic that you'll have to pay for instead of making a DLC for it.

I haven't played Mass Effect, but even I know that making a new ending a DLC is just...kinda pathetic.

I really expected a lot more from Bioware, they seemed really in-tune with their audience. DId they really think that this was the ending that everyone would go "OHKAY NICE GAME :D" to and be done with?

Yeah this is...a pretty popular opinion. I expected to see at least one secret on the subject, though.
