I'm sorry that you had to go through that, and I can totally see why it would ruin the pairing for you. There's stories for them that even I can't read, even though I haven't gone through anything like that, because they seem so uncomfortably abusive. Not all of them, but I can see why you'd feel differently.

I hope you can get past what happened, though, because I'm sure that asshole boss isn't worth it.

Not trying to invalidate your feelings here, but I'm not sure how one relates to the other? Merlin seems to be the one coming onto Arthur all the time.

i was about to say that they're both horrible to each other (Arthur more so in S3, Merlin more so in S4) but i think OP is referring to popular fanfic portrayals of the characters rather than the actual canon source-- although personally I think fandom tends to soften Arthur's personality more often than not. same goes for Merlin too actually.

Hey, I haven't seen anything about show!Arthur being remotely interested in Merlin. I haven't seen show!Arthur make any sexual advances towards Merlin, though he's certainly near-abusive in other ways. If the answer is fic, then fine the answer is fic. If the answer is "in episode xx he makes a move on Merlin" then that's fine too.

I was just looking for a reason not your condescension. Because you haven't provided a real reason, I'm assuming you were just trying to start trouble.

And yeah, this probably isn't the best place to say that power play is what I enjoy most about the Merlin/Arthur relationship...

I enjoy the powerplay because they're so well match and it's, literally, play. Merlin's actually the one with the upper hand should anything happen. The power dynamics was much more disturbing in the Arthur/Gwen pairing ...or, well, Arthur/Anyone but Merlin since they're all his subjects and therefore must obey him. Merlin's pretty much the only one who has nothing to fear from Arthur.

I'm sorry, OP. I know how awful your situation is. I've been there too. I hope you have someone to help you through this.

And it's not silly. I can't stand ships with power discrepancies either. They make my skin crawl. The only time I can stand Arthur/Merlin is when Arthur already knows that Merlin is super-powerful and can obliterate him with a snap of his fingers. I think it puts them on a more even footing. If you really want to try reading the pairing again, perhaps that will work for you too?
