That's actually pretty funny considering how much the shippers DO warp canon for their own purposes.

Cas pulled Dean out of hell because he was told to, not because he wanted to. He died because of his own selfish actions, after deceiving the Winchesters. Everyone else on the list (minus Adam) died trying to help or save them.

Well, technically, Cas died (or almost died) several times before that helping out the Winchesters, but still. This.

And am I the only one kind of irritated by the assumption that not liking Cas = butthurt shipper?

I love Cas and I'm annoyed by the assumption that anyone doesn't like him is automatically a butthurt shipper. I've seen lots of people with perfectly valid reasons for why they personally don't like him that have nothing to do with shipping.

However, I think the fact that a lot of the people who are the loudest and most vitriolic about it do tend to be shippers (at least from what I've seen) hasn't really helped clear up that misconception, though.

So the time(s) Castiel died in order to help out the brothers (or even when he got Sam out of hell as well) simply... don't count. Who was Cas "deceiving" when he got blown to bits back in seasons 4 and 5, exactly? Or when he was TORTURED in to proceed with his mission? Or the fact that it was more than clear Cas was mortified about his own actions, in the start of 7.02: this just didn't happen. OK.

Never mind the fact that Cas DID save the world from Raphael - but hey! it was all for his "selfish reasons", whatever does are... That's some weird notion of selfishness you've got there.

Did you skip entire seasons of the show? It's not warping canon to acknowledge actual events on the show... And I'm speaking entirely as a non-shipper here.

But I see how this works... So by your reasoning, everything Cas ever did for the Winchesters was selfish and motivated entirely by his own personal agenda. Nothing he ever did was genuinely to help or save Sam and Dean (though I'm really curious how you can say that getting exploded into goo by Lucifer was because he was selfish...). And, none of the other characters you mentioned ever did anything selfish or misguided that they then turned around and made up for...

Cripes you imbicile, I'm not saying Cas has always been a good guy and hasn't done selfish things. I can easily acknowledge that. Same way I can acknowledge that both Dean and Sam have done stupid, selfish things and haven't always made the best decisions. They're all pretty flawed. But just because you may do something entirely for the benefit of yourself, it doesn't negate the things that you genuinely do for others. Duh.

Whatever. You're going to paint his actions with whatever brush you want, simply because you want to - without any regard to what really happened just because otherwise you'd have to admit that you're wrong. Keep on hatin' - I'm going to be thinking warm and fuzzy thoughts about you when Cas shows up tonight. :)

How can I say that? Simple. I didn't. You lose for putting words in my mouth. I mentioned 2 incidents (Castiel's intro and exit) and made no comment whatsoever on the instances in between.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
You mention two misread incidents in order to diabolize a character, while ignoring the entire scope of actions said character had throughout the series. What's the point of that exactly?

"Hey! It doesn't matter what you do in your all life! It only matters what you were doing in the exact moment when you first showed up, and when you died".

lulz

Pretty much yes... Think about an example: you save a friend from certain death a couple of times and later you have an argument with him and you shoot him on the head and kill him. What counts more? the times you saved him or the time you killed him?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
DA, but... Really? You're just going to address the parts where he wasn't helpful and ignore the heap of positive things he's done? Anyone would look like the world's worst villain with your selective viewing.
