I think what OP is trying to say is that they were upset there weren't any Hispanics/Latinos in The Hunger Games?

Say what you will, but would it really hurt people to realize that the United States has more than two races/ethnicities and to try to, you know, INCLUDE other minorities in their fiction from time to time? And Hispanics are the largest minority ethnic group in the US

Especially given how much the Hispanic population is growing right now (and how it's supposed to outnumber the white population eventually if it keeps growing at that rate, if all the scare reporting on Fox is to be believed, which I guess eh). But that did strike me when reading the first book, from the names more than anything.

No, the Hispanic population actually is growing pretty strongly (whether or not that's a neutral fact or an OMG HORRIBLE SCARY THING depends on whether or not you're watching Fox News I guess). For example, if current trends continue, Texas will have a majority Hispanic population in about ten years.

I've read criticism recently from Hispanic journalists, writers, etc. about how few Hispanic characters you see in American tv shows, movies, etc. and I think there's a lot of truth to that. It seems to be changing, but still, it's kind of stupid given demographic information

Yeah, and I imagine after 100+ or whatever it is for THG, there'd be enough intermarrying and so on that most of the characters would have some Hispanic blood at the least, if not the names. But that's harder to show, I guess? I still doubt Suzanne Collins thought that far.

There could be a lot of characters of spanish descent, I think, you just can't know it from the name (most of them are latin/weird), but I'm pretty sure a lot of them could be!

I think, though, the OP must have only seen the movie, because that books are not racially defined. Characteristics are given of only two districts and only one (District 11) has characteristics that can be related to a current racial category. The others could and almost definitely are mixed racially. Or do black hair, olive skin, and grey eyes seem particularly limited racially to you?

Very, very little is spoken about current racial categories in the Hunger Games trilogy.

Not really, quite the opposite actually. See my other comments in this thread
I think OP is mainly complaining about the movie, since they mentioned it specifically

After watching the movie I can't imagine Rue except as Amandla Stenberg, but when I first read the books I pictured her as Hispanic.

I did, too.
