Yep; it's supposed to be disgusting/awful, especially Rue. That's what causes the events (not going further in describing because of spoilers) of the sequels, or at least sets the stage for them. That it's such a horrible thing.

Which I find disgusting, because she's just as much a product of the Capitol's twisted brainwashing and oppression as well. And it made me glad that they minimize the bloodshed to appeal to the more desensitize audiences who wanted to see more gore.

Mine didn't, thank goodness. Boyfriend would have had to hold me back. She's my favorite and I don't think I could handle death-applause for any of them, but especially not my Clove. :(

Out of curiosity, why is Clove your favorite? I thought she was an excellent character but I don't think I really have a favorite.

Taken directly from one of those talk-about-a-character memes on my journal because I'd talk about her all day but you'd probably get bored:

I mean, this girl. She is my favorite little asshole in the world. Favorite Hunger Games character and definitely has the potential to achieve staying power in my 'favorite characters ever' lexicon. I love how she begs the question of what put her in the place she is in canon, but other than a few hints, that's for us to decide. I love that she is so messed up and yet so freaking skilled, and I love that her running with the huge boys in the Career Pack is so non-issue that it isn't even discussed. I love her Thing with Cato, whatever that Thing is. I love how Cato respects tiny little her as his equal when he treats people twice her size as targets. And I love her unique brand of creepy. All the Careers bring their own special flavor of disturbing, but Clove's flair for sadism is by far the most interesting to me. I love that we're left to wonder how much is an act. Oh, and I love "We're going to kill you. How does that sound?"

TL;DR SHE IS A TRAGICALLY BEAUTIFUL AND BEAUTIFULLY TRAGIC CAREER BOSS.

Yeah, I love those aspects of Clove too. She was really tiny. I kind of expected her to be a bit bigger. And (in the book) I expected her to die once the other girl (Glimmer?) died so I was pleasantly surprised when she totally held her own.

I think one of the characters I like a lot, with no idea why though, is Johanna from the next two books. I'm not sure if you read the books so I won't go into why, I just think of her as a great character.

But I'm definitely going to need to reread THG and focus more on Clove this time. =D

This. I did feel a bit nauseated at some points while watching the movie. Doubt I would have actually thrown up, but it's meant to be unsettling--even disturbing.
