(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 04:06 am (UTC)(link)And that Merlin and all her friends just stood there and watched it happen..
Really? What were they supposed to do, argue with Arthur when Merlin and Agravaine also witnessed the kiss, Arthur's reaction and Lancelot's attempt not to defend but to kill? Or how Gwen placed herself in front of Lancelot and pleading with Arthur to stop? If we didn't know that she was enchanted like Merlin & Arthur didn't, wouldn't you have thought that she loved Lance, not Arthur and it was indeed a betrayal?

For starters, they could've suggested that she'd been enchanted. Merlin and Gaius knew Lancelot wasn't really Lancelot and that he was being controlled by Morgana but they never even questioned that maybe Morgana had also done something to Gwen? Or that fake!Lancelot had done something to Gwen? They just assumed she'd cheat on Arthur the second Lancelot showed up despite knowing how honest and loyal Gwen has always been. And that goes for her brother, as well. He never stopped to take Merlin aside and ask if Gwen had somehow been enchanted despite the fact that he'd suffered the same fate in the prior episode? And Elyan just let his sister be banished without going with her and still continued to serve the guy who banished and humiliated her? Talk about being a crappy brother...The least Merlin or Elyan could've done was make sure she got somewhere safe once she was banished and they didn't even do that much.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 05:47 am (UTC)(link). Merlin and Gaius [...] never even questioned that maybe Morgana had also done something to Gwen? They just assumed she'd cheat on Arthur [...] despite knowing how honest and loyal Gwen has always been.
If they had known about the bracelet, then I'd say yes they should have known something was up. I do believe her statement about the shock of his return combined with her guilt made her confused and find it plausible that she may have had a momentary lapse.
Gwen is honest and loyal, but that doesn't mean she can't make a mistake. She wore his token without hesitation (obviously wasn't compelled to do as shown by the gaol scene) is enough to indicate she still felt something more that mere friends despite what she said.
Elyan just let his sister be banished without going with her and still continued to serve the guy who banished and humiliated her? Talk about being a crappy brother.
Actually I think Arthur spared Gwen the humiliation that her banishment should have been. He did it behind closed doors with no audience & told her to leave by dawn when no townsfolk were present and she didn't have an armed guard to ensure she left. That Merlin was there to see her off, even though they never spoke, was more support than she would have expected.
As for Elyan, perhaps he's happy his sister wasn't executed as court gossip said should happen. He wasn't present for the previous horrible events Gwen's been through when he should have come running, so him keeping to his vow of serving Arthur doesn't grate me like it does you.
