Hot Damn,

The cesspit known as TV Tropes is finally purging sex from its site.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13328565880A16922600&page=18#447

Now we just need them to stop the racism and faggotry. We can claim this victory for our campaign, told you if we smeared them with the pedo brush enough they'd cave with embarrassment.

What do you want to make them do next? I love how we can control their site just by making them feel bad about stuff.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, we do need to stop TV Tropes being homosexual.

Anyone know good sites/documentaries/books about buddhism? I've been reading about it lately and I feel like it might be right for me.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, atheist style buddhism, or the nonsense spiritual kind?

I enjoyed "Hardcore Zen: Punk Rock, Monster Movies and the Truth About Reality " by Brad Warner. It was funny, informative, and very straight forward. He has other books out but I haven't read them yet.

The Dalai Lama and Thich Nhat Hanh are both fantastic teachers, and there are many books by/about both of them available.

smh.

Try anything by Thich Nhat Hanh, basically.

Also, both my parents are Zen Buddhists, so I have a lot of recs in that specific department -- The Three Pillars of Zen and anything else by Roshi Philip Kapleau. I'm not as helpful with other forms of Buddhism though, sorry.

I felt that way, too, OP, after a bit of research. :) Really Buddhism is a wonderful religion because there are excerpts from Buddha's teachings that say that in a relationship men and women should have an equal role, homosexual intercourse is no worse/different than regular intercourse (http://www.enabling.org/ia/vipassana/Archive/T/Trembath/buddhismAndHomosexualityTrembath.html) (basically, just don't do it in a hedonistic way that harms others and it's okay), and I've always thought the concept of reincarnation/kamma is pretty groovy. In this explanation I am mainly referring to Mahayanan Buddhism, though. The Theravadian sect is all right, but they do have a slight amount of discrimination against women (they believe only male monks can achieve nirvana... which, I guess you could reason out that if you were born a woman, in your next life you could simply be reincarnated as a male monk and then achieve nirvana from there, but the beliefs of that Buddhist sect are a little too anti-progressive for me). So yes, I am a big advocate of Mahayanan Buddhism. I really like the way that it encourages bettering yourself personally in order to have a better world, as well as the way that it encourages being kind/peaceful to everyone... it's just a great philosophy, too, I think!

Anyway, first if you have a Smartphone you should download readings apps. Of course, apps that include either the entire Dhammapada/excerpts from it are always a good start. There are also quite a few sutra apps, so if that is your thing you should check those out. If you like meditating, my crude method for meditating involves me just goggling "meditation music" (well actually I have favorited a few on YouTube so I listen to that playlist while I meditate -- I listen to music because I am not strong enough mentally to meditate without falling asleep without music right now, haha!) I highly advocate meditating -- even if you are not a Buddhist! It is such a freeing, cathartic experience. Finally, I really like just perusing the "Buddhism" tag on tumblr. :) I like this method because I feel connected with others, and I can hear other people's perspective on the religion. I am not sure if you are interested in it as more of a religious thing or a philosophical thing to enhance your life a little, but Buddhism is mostly philosophy (really most of the mystic elements are not that prevalent... while the only mystic thing I sort of believe in in reincarnation, all of the mystical bits [particularly prevalent in ancient Japanese Buddhism] are not believable to me, but that not doesn't make them interesting! So, for funsies (or if you believe in that) you could also visit this page: History of Japanese Buddhism (http://viewonbuddhism.org/history_japanese_buddhism.html).

Hope this helps~! If you need anything, please feel free to message me. Namaste. :)

SJW from JournalFen were responsible for the anti-Derpy Hooves Campaign, for those still blaming Yamino. Sandglass was most vocal.

Can we have a "I personally remember Msscribe" tally here? I've been sifting through old fandom_wank archives and was feeling nostalgic.

I do! Never interacted with her, but I read a couple of her posts.

Man, why don't we get wank like that these days? Damn kids.
