Not OP but....

For me I think it's mostly a lack of exposure when I was younger. Watching Labyrinth now, I don't get any of that heartwarming nostalgia that can usually help gloss over either cringeworthy moments or just general blah-ness.

The dialogue is brilliantly clever and I do love that, but most of the movie just has too much WTF humor for my tastes. I find most of Henson's stuff to be like that.

Well, it was written by someone from the Monty Python fame, so...

I do have a nostalgia factor I suppose with the movie, but I always just love that kind of weird, oddly magical type of movie in general.

Lack of nostalgia for it does make sense! Most people I've heard give a reason for not liking it have said the same. I do like Henson (and Python-y) stuff anyway, so I like to imagine that I would still like it even if I didn't grow up watching and loving it, but if it's not quite to your taste to start with, I can see how not seeing it through the ol' nostalgia filter would not help with liking it more!

I actually like Jim Henson and Monty Python, but this movie just did nothing for me. I had a real hard time really liking any of the characters, some parts just really seemed to come out of left-field in a bad way, and also the whole ballroom scene between Bowie and the girl was just kind of... odd. She seemed way too young for him, but there was really supposed to be a chemistry between them I guess? idk.

Ballroom scene was symbolic. It's an adult place, yet she;s still a child. She's growing up, and the king represents temptation in a way. By conquering him in the end she;s able to give up her childhood, and start to grow up in her own way.
