You technically can catch him. With your face. Except for the part where it's still a scripted event, and your attempt at showing off face-core balancing skills will never be acknowledged.

On my first playthrough, I missed the "you never caught me" bit of his diatribe at the end, so it was only at the very end where you let go where I actually felt bad. It was like, "oh no. that was like when we used to be cool and now i feel bad a bit :'("
