The boring yet inevitable hook up will just be one part of the show though, maybe the rest of it will be ok? I mean, I got tired of the will they/won't they stuff in one of my other fandoms even though I somewhat shipped it (and that was a m/f pairing that could "never be") but the rest of the show was still awesome for another couple of seasons.

Also I doubt Sherlock/John shippers need a heterosexual pairing of the characters to think "you know, that totally works!" - they're already shipping it. I too prefer a bromance rather than romance reading but BBC's Sherlock dances between the two so can't say I blame 'em.
