Kill or be killed, survival of the fittest. Morals have got nothing to do with it.

That's not what survival of the fittest means. Despite it's common usage to mean "ability to fight/survive". Fitness in terms of biology and evolution (which is where the phrase survival of the fittest actually comes from) means the ability to pass on your inheritable traits to the next generation. So even if you die really young and many others live a long time, if you had more offspring in your short life than they did in their long life then you're still more fit then they are as your inheritable traits are "surviving" from generation to generation.

DA

Yeah, thank you, that really has nothing to do with anything said here. In the Hunger Games, they're children, and likely haven't passed on their genes at all. Therefore evolution does favor those that can survive the games and have offspring. In terms of offspring their fitness is directly linked to making it to first reproduction.

Or do you really want to just tote around that first year biology class where it makes no difference?

I'm not saying it had anything to do with The Hunger Games, I'm just saying that they're misusing a phrase.

Thank you etymology man.

Since we're not actually in a life or death situation, I don't mind being etymology man.
