lol @ this comparison

it's like calling your friend a hypocrite when they tell you to get chemo for your cancer because they won't try your new favorite potato chip flavor.

I see it more like the friend being pissed off at people insisting she try new foods all the time, then pressuring you to get chemo for your cancer (note that not all cancer patients want chemo because of all the side effects and whatnot) because when she tells you to do something even if you don't want to do it, you should! But other people shouldn't get to say what she does and are annoying and pressuring, ew.

I haven't really seen anyone defending the religious friend for trying to push religion on OP. We're just saying that the MOTIVE for the religious friend pushing religion on the friend is different than just trying to get someone to join a fandom.

I don't know what you're arguing with me, I was only adding to the the analogy. Obviously the motive for the friend pressuring the cancer-patient to get chemo is different from people getting her to try new foods. The actions and unwanted pressuring are the same though.

They're defending the right of the friend to push religion on the OP. And I'm sorry, one persons religious rights end where the another persons rights begin.

The motive still stinks. By proselytizing, you're effectively telling someone you dislike how they live their life. Who the hell gives ANYONE that right? And saying 'their god' doesn't count; because not everyone believes in the same way. Or believes at all.

I said "different" not "okay". It's absolutely not okay to force religion on someone. It's slightly less not okay to force a fandom on someone. Repeatedly asking someone to read Homestuck, while annoying, is not as wrong as repeatedly harassing someone to go to church with them.

And yet people in this thread keep defending the friends right to push his/her faith on the OP, by saying 'welp, its not as bad as pushing The Hunger Games, so it's fine!' And missing the OP's point entirely.

Pushing anything onto another person, who has shown disinterest, is not kosher. Doesn't matter if its fandom or religion.

Maybe the OP should've used another metaphor that wasn't so polarizing to make that point.
