Disclaimer: I'm not at all religious but...

I think the general expectation among the Christian faith is that Jesus is a real entity who saves your mortal soul. Can't quite say the same for fandom...

Does she know you're not interested? As someone who has invited friends to church activities (more as a "I don't want to be alone, be a pal and keep me company?" compared to "JESUS WILL SAVE YOU. COME TO CHRIST.") I completely understood when they said they weren't interested in my religion. I had one friend, though, who did not tell me she wasn't interested, and lied to me every time I asked if she wanted to go with me. That hurt a hell of a lot more than just telling me the truth. I know I'm pretty chill compared to a lot of religious people, but maybe try that if you haven't?

Equating pestering someone about fandom and pestering someone about religion is a false comparison. Fandom is a hobby. Religion is something people build their life around, make decisions that will affect their entire lives over, and in some cases--even today in various places around the world--are tortured to death over. Trying to make it out as if urging a person to join fandom is the same as urging them to go to church, even when your point is simply about the urging itself, is a massive misunderstanding of what religion is and how it functions.

That said, if you want her to stop trying to get you to go to church, tell her that. You don't actually have to explain to her that you view a major portion of her life on the same level as your interwebbly hobby. 'Cause, yeah, you are quite correct that that might maybe be slightly offensive to her.

Anyway, if you can't tell your friend, who can you tell? Friends are there for each other, it's not about walking on eggshells. Suppose she does get offended. So what. She'll get over it. You're friends.

All these people going, OMG BUT RELIGION IS SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN FANDOM YOU CAN'T COMPARE THEM just completely missed the point of the entire secret. Pretend it's like this: say instead of going to church, this girl was always pushing everyone to like, play soccer, but when other people rec sports she should try out, she's all, NO AND STOP BUGGING ME ABOUT IT! Clearly, she is a hypocrite.

Which is the exact same thing happening here. Forget whatever ~importance religion may have over fandom, since importance is completely fucking irrelevant here. (And anyway, importance is arbitrary.)

To bring up a point that nobody else has yet, how do we know OP isn't religious herself? Everyone has been assuming so, but OP never said, only implied that she has no interest in "church." What if OP is Buddhist or Muslim or Pagan or whatever and their friend is Christian?

Not touching the religion vs. fandom thing with a ten foot pole, but I get what you mean about people who won't leave you alone about trying to convert you. I'm sick of people telling me they feel sorry for me 'cause I'm no longer a Christian, or saying patronizing shit like "I'll pray for you to see the light." On the other hand, I'm happy to be around religious folk of all types who accept me and my beliefs (or lack thereof) without trying to force anything on me, and I'm happy to grant them the same courtesy. Thankfully, I know more of the latter type of religious person than the former.

Anyway. Now granted, I don't know all the facts of your situation, but if you tell her how you feel, maybe she'll back off? It may be that she just doesn't realize how she's coming across to you. It doesn't make her a hypocrite if she really doesn't know that it bothers you.

I have no advice except to please, when you ask your friend to stop inviting you to church, don't compare her faith to fandom. I understand they hold similar importance to a lot of people, but if religion is even a slightly important part of her life it's not going to fly over well.

Also I see a lot of people assuming that OP's friend is trying to convert her? Idk when I still went to church (dragged by my parents, lol), it was a very social activity and members would invite their friends to meet their church buddies and stuff. /shrug
