As a writer of longer stories (both fanfic and original), I'm actually glad to see that there are people who prefer items over 7K. While a certain skill set makes shorter stories work, I find that no matter the topic the length makes the story...whimiscal, which I find kind of offputting. On top of that, my initial forays into fandom back in the late 90s (X-Files, Daria) resulted in reading primarily longer pieces. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for that.

On that note, a lot of Daria fanfic (and some of its best) runs on the longer side, which could be why I always go back to it. :)
