I've followed people for specific fandoms and I'll usually stick around even if they move on as long as there's something keeping me there - they're funny, they're insightful, I like them a lot, etc. (I've had some friends like this who, after years, had their interest rekindled in our old shared fandom and it's very fun) I'll almost certainly stick around if they have other interests I don't care about but they continue to share my fandom as well.
And other times I quit following, either because there was nothing else there or the person just keeps spamming and spamming tons and tons of stuff about the fandom(s) I don't care about. As long as you're cool with that and don't take it personally, and preferably open about being cool about it, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
