Is it the implications of their relationship in their canonical genders that bothers you? Or it doesn't do anything for you?

Well, I can't speak for the OP, but I have to say canon Cloud/Tifa is an incredibly boring and predictable pairing to me. Childhood friends, the boy left town to pursue bigger and better things, she's still crushing on him a huge amount despite the fact that they haven't seen each other for half a decade and were never all that close to begin with. It's standard and dull as hell.

But if you had a genderswapped version, changing their genders would change the dynamics, and it gets really interesting. If Cloud was the girl who left town for bigger and better things, that alone would be fun because it's not a standard gender role. And actually, it would make Cloud's in-game interactions with the various love interests a lot more palatable if the reason she was so standoffish and rude to them was because she was a lesbian in denial of her same-sex attraction.

I hadn't actually really thought about it before, but now that I see this secret, I desperately want to read lesbian-in-denial!Cloud/Tifa fic. That would be fun!
