I skipped tumblr for a few days and came back to find the best shenanigans ever- somebody in a fandom a lot of my followers like discovered there was porn of his character and didn't like it, wank ensued, it was beautiful.

Now I'm curious though: FS people, what do YOU do when people involved with the original thing find less-than-wholesome fandom stuff? Do you get embarrassed? Do you think it's funny?

If I ever get around to doing that comic I've been planning for years, my greatest hope would be that someone would draw porn of the characters. I'm purposely writing it so that practically most of the characters can be shipped with each other regardless of what happens in canon.

In my case I was tempted to watch the canon just to figure out why the chain of events happened in the first place. I'm not embarrassed by other people's fangirling, and actually I kind of like watching it? I feel a bit sorry for them from what I've seen, but if I ever got a fandom*, I would just be vaguely amused by the r34 if anything.

*spoiler alert: this would never happen.

I lurked in a fandom where some douches intentionally sent their friends' porn to the original creator just for the hell of it. The wank was less entertaining and more awkward as fuck, since the ones who made the porn didn't want the creator to see it and it resulted in a lot of fans purging or deleting their accounts while the ones who sent it were completely unapologetic about it(in fact, before I left they did this 3 more times).

Creators finding porn of their work can be funny, but I always feel bad for the fans who'd be embarrassed by it because of that.

I've been following one of the actors from my current favorite fandom on Twitter lately, and I'm finding so much secondhand embarrassment.

He's half of the fandom's most popular ship, and since the majority of the fans (at least online) seem to be teenage girls, they don't see anything weird about sending him fannish/shippy stuff. Most of it's pretty tame at least, but one person sent him a fanmade video using a song with explicitly sexual lyrics about his character and the one everybody ships him with, and recently someone sent him her fanfic and asked for feedback. I found both of those things a bit squicky, but he thought the video was funny and actually RTed it to a couple of his costars, and told the girl who wrote the fic that it was really good and she should keep going (I suspect he was just trying to be nice, but I didn't read the fic so I can't say for sure).

He seems to be kind of into the whole fandom thing, though. He tweets ship-related hashtags, uses their portmanteau ship name in interviews, talks about the shippers on talk shows, etc. He's mentioned several times how much he loves the relationship, though, so I guess he's just happy the fans love it, too. Honestly, I find it all a little bit weird, but I guess it's good that he's having fun with it?

Wow this sounds a lot like an actor (Mark Deklin) I'm following, but the following for his show is (unfortunately) insanely tiny (I don't even know if it counts as a fandom it's so small LOL) so I can't imagine it's him that you're talking about. I kind of love how enthusiastic he is about the show/his character/the ship though. He's ridiculously adorable on Twitter, seems like a super nice guy & I kind of have a giant crush on him haha

Curious now who it is you're talking about...
