i'm also a person of faith, and i was kind of offended by this secret myself. it's mainly because i listen to/write a lot of christian music and perform for my church, so christian music, to me, moves me in a way sometimes reading from scripture doesn't. it's really personal to me (and those i sing with), so hearing about someone tainting it this way feels really wrong.

i know that some people interpret christian music in non-religious ways, and i'm okay with that. but what the op's saying is horrible. she's using words of worship and devotion and love to portray *rape* and *abusive relationships* and that disgusts me. sorry.

op can do whatever he/she wants, but i still think it's wrong. i'm not going to dwell on this, but like the ayrt said, i wish i hadn't read it.

Nobody is tainting the actual music though. The music does not change. OP's not actually using the words to portray those terrible things, the words are inspiring OP to write about them. That's not the same thing at all.

NAYRT. I think because of the subject a lot of people are going anon, lol.

Anyway, I have to disagree somewhat. OP is sort of maligning the music. If she's hearing these lyrics and being inspired to write (ex) rape, it's because that's how she's interpreting it, hence why I feel she's tainting it. She's taking it out of context and using it as inspiration for some pretty cruddy things.

I get where you're coming from, but I also get where the OP is from. I'm Catholic (though I'm not all that devout... so in other words I practice, though not nearly as much as I should), and personally I didn't find this secret to be too offensive. But it did squick the heck out of me. And I can see how someone could be offended by this.

That's just my opinion, though.

I get the same as the OP sometimes though. But when I do while listening to the music, it's not because I'm thinking about religion, it's because I'm thinking about how terrifying and unhealthy it would be if the same kind of devotion were given to the other person in an abusive ship or something with some character. The point being that giving that sort of religious devotion to someone who isn't god/God/a god/your god is a bad thing. Which goes along with religion, I should think.

And inspires fic.
