Nah, I've read the books many times for entertainment, but sheesh-louise Tolkien, pacing. Sometimes it seems like he never showed any action or drama if he could get away with the characters sitting around and talking about it instead. The Simarilian is even worse. SO MANY AWESOME STORIES -- none of them properly fleshed out.
ext_18500: My non-fandom OC Oraania. She's crazy. (Stop! In the name of love!)

The problem with The Silmarillion is that it is a compilation put together by Tolkien's son. It is a pile of great stories that are not fleshed out. Some of the stuff in the Silm, Christopher Tolkien basically paraphrased, presumably to fit it all in one book and not get bogged down in all the details JRR came up with.

It takes digging into the History of Middle-earth series (a non-fiction collection of all Tolkien's notes and such) to start really getting into the depths of the Silm stories.
