As for memorizing the cards, first of all, obviously doing frequent readings will help. But I also suggest getting a deck that has an illustrated minor arcana (that is, the cup, sword, pentacle, and wand cards, or whatever the suits are called in your deck.) Some decks, such as the Rider-Waite, have cards with detailed illustrations. Other decks just have, say, a picture of three cups for the Three of Cups. I think it's easier to remember the meanings if there's an illustration that relates to the meaning of the card.
Also, there are some ways you can simplify things. For example, the meanings of the cards can differ if the cards are reversed (upside down), but not everyone includes reversals in their readings, and I don't think there's any reason to worry about it right away.
