I dunno, man, did you read Sunshine. I put that book down and had a small, existential breakdown. Could not reconcile that with the same woman who wrote The Blue Sword.

I like Beauty best, but that's probably because I read it first. Rose Daughter feels a little simplistic, at least in terms of the family scenes, but I love them anyway.

Yeeees to Spindle's End.


I really would love to see a movie or mini-series of The Blue Sword, but there is absolute no way you could do that without some awkward racist moments popping up.

Idk you could probably do the Blue Sword... no matter what it would still be less awful than the movie of Airbender, lbr.

What was off with Sunshine? Just asking cause I love it and wish it had a sequel- though I get that it was more an antidote to the ridiculous Sookie-style vampire romaaance everywhere and I was just relieved to read about vampires who were actually non-human in their actions.

Of all the McKinley books, I think Spindle's End is still my least fave even if I like it too. They'd all make amazing movies... and hell if we can be stuck with a Wrath of the Titans and however many other crappy sequels then shouldn't someone somewhere be reading these books and at least attempting a new idea.

I can't speak for the person above, but I found the clearly Other vampires fascinating and a nice change. It was the vampire boner scene in Sunshine really threw me. I was not expecting that from McKinley. (Possibly because I only read Deerskin once since I found it so upsetting. I now tend to forget she was never only chaste magical romance.)
