Those books were basically my fiance's childhood, and I read them last year while we were staying at his parents' house during his recovery from a surgical procedure (the specialist we went to was in their city, not ours). They might not have been the most unpredictable, but they were sweet, fun books, and Lady Polgara was fierce!

[identity profile] nopejustme.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo Polgara! She was always incredibly appealing to me personally. (I liked that she was powerful and serious and curvy)

Though Silk will always have a special place in my heart. God I love this series, I don't understand why people don't. It's funny, adventurous and the couples are all great!

Same here, same here. Silk fangirl 4 lyfe.

I love you for writing an Eddings related secret. I'm always so happy when I find out that other people love those books too.

Also, now you're making me wish my belly dancing stuff was blue instead of purple. Alas.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-29 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
OP here and I love all the books too! it just really stuck with me as a kid that Polgara was fantastic though, and I loved that she got a book to herself as well. I know there's a lot of problems with the books now (and I can definitely recognise them) but I still have wonderful memories of reading them as a child.

But sob girlcrush.

Really though it's not only the ones in blue that I watch! (Those are just the ones I pretend might be Pol) but I do actually find belly dancing in general to be incredibly sexy to watch and please just keep doing whatever it is you are doing.

Don't feel bad. I have a thing for /Relg/. The fandom for this stuff is practically nonexistent.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-28 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't like Relg until I read this amazing fanfic that resolved some of the shittier elements of his relationship with Taiba in the most incredible way.

Woohoo David Eddings secret!! Polgara was one of my first girl crushes and made me realise that I fall for fierce women.

asddghjkl; David Eddings secret!
my God I loved these books when I was younger and still do now.
it's a family tradition to take the Belgariad and the Mallorean on holiday every year and we all take turns re-reading the series.
and yes, Polgara is AMAZING. I mean, she's beautiful, smart, powerful, confident, responsible, and somehow caring too. I basically just wanted to be as cool as her since the age of ten.
tl:dr this secret wins in every respect.

OMG DAVID EDDINGS SECRET YESSSS

I always love finding other fans of these books.

[identity profile] i-lyk-breathing.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I love this series! More people should read Eddings, it's like GRRM-light or something.

It's the Community of epic fantasy.

Yay Eddings secret! And yay other Eddings /fans/ omg it's not just me and my dad. :D

Polgara is just about the fiercest thing ever. Shit, ALL his characters are amazing (o hai thar Silk and Ehlana) but Pol is forever my favorite. :)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-28 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG Silk.

HOLY SHIT A FUCKING POLGARA THE SORCERESS SECRET

I have a lot of feminist issues with this whole book but HEY OP I'M A FAN TOO

[identity profile] evrymemry.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
DAVID EDDINGS! Those books seriously got me into fantasy. My friend loaned me her copies of The Belgariad over the course of a week and I devoured them! So happy to see other fans here. :'D

[identity profile] equius.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I devoured the Belgariad and Mallorean all through high school, good to see there are some fans despite all the criticism. Polgara rocks, even if she turned out a little too perfect... she is still the most badass lady. That time in Gar og Nadrak, ahhhh

(I wish there was an active fandom, I still look to the Rivan Codex for inspiration on worldbuilding.)

[identity profile] gabzillaz.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love David Eddings IDGAF.

Elenium is still one of my favourite series.

[identity profile] capeofstorm.livejournal.com 2012-04-28 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god POLGARA <3333333 Now you've made me want to reread the series just for this fantastic, fierce woman.

[identity profile] isa-lyxces.livejournal.com 2012-04-29 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't had the opportunity to read all of the Belgariad, but I agree wholeheartedly. The Elenium and Tamuli are my favoritest evar. I read them when I was like 14, and they have totally held up. It seems to be a thing, though, that you like your first David Eddings series best.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-29 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I love these books, and Polgara was my favorite! I won't sell them or give them away, in case I want to read them again someday. Although I might like the Sparhawk books even better...it's a toss up. I tried one of the new series and disliked it intensely. Dunno why.

[identity profile] jusbeinkt.livejournal.com 2012-04-29 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh God, Polgara is hawt. I <3 her.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-30 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the hell out of those books when I read them, in probably... 8th grade or so? I wish my copies weren't packed away in storage. I really wanted to RP someone from them, but I need a reread like whoa. ;_;

You are not alone! I love David Eddings. Yuletide usually has a pretty good showing of fic for the Belgariad and the Mallorean, so you should check it out, OP.
