Makes sense.

I like buffoons when they secretly kind of enrich the serious people's lives, like "you're a pain in the ass but my life would be seriously boring without you around," that kinda thing. Pisses me off too when they're actually hurting their serious people.

Ohh, I never noticed that distinction (apparently I'm stupid), but now that you say it... Maybe I do like some buffoons without noticing it, because they register to me as characters instead of pure comedic relief.
