Well, there's more to the choice of 1st person POV and 3rd person POV than just the controls. It often has to do with how the developer wants to present their story. 1st person is very good for immersing the player in that world. I think more fantasy type games are heading in this direction. Though 3rd person is used if the focus is more on the character itself. What's the sense in designing an awesome character if you barely see them? It also depends in how they interact with the environment. Assassin's Creed can't work as solely a first person game because of the amount of tumbling. Mirror's Edge tried that and what you ended up with was a lot of people getting nauseous. If rolling and hiding is a core part of your game, you want the player to see how they are interacting with their environment, not necessarily be in it. When it does come to controls though, 1st person is a lot easier to handle on PC with a mouse and keyboard than on console with a controller. It was designed that way, so perhaps your problems are with what you're using to play them on. I know I have problems playing 1st person with a controller, but none with a mouse. They should think about being able to switch POVs if they're releasing the game cross platform or better yet, allow you to plug a keyboard and mouse into your console to play since most PC ports allow you to plug in a controller.
