Except they missed the whole point of many objections to Twilight - not that it's trash but that it reinforces dangerous myths about relationships to impressionable teenagers.

*Waits for rants about how teenagers can totes understand everything about real life, don't patronise us, man*

Who missed the point of objections to Twilight? I think you're nitpicking here. I could come up with serious objections to Transformers as well, I'm sure. I haven't seen it so the only thing I'm aware of is that Meghan(sp?) Fox was photoshopped to have different proportions in at least one of them.

Megalomaniageek just chose two popular films/series as examples. So the examples aren't perfect, but megalomaniageek still has made a completely valid point/observation.

Saying "the whole point of many objections to Twilight" is about the idealized abusive relationship therein is like saying the whole point of many objections to Transformers is about the racist caricature robots. They are there, but they are in the minority and not what I was talking about.
I'm not talking about the in-depth examination essays, I'm talking about the "lol my girlfriend took me to see Twilight SUCH TORTURE" that I see all over the internet, far outweighing any serious consideration of problematic issues outside of SJ-heavy spaces on Livejournal and Tumblr.
I'd also argue that action movies present many dangerous myths about relationships to impressionable teenagers (e.g. success means you get the girl! James Bond is a badass real person but all the women in his life are expendable and exchangeable!) but, again, these are rarely if ever discussed outside of SJ-heavy spaces on the internet and in-depth examination essays.

exactly, very well said.

The majority of the objections to Twilight are "lol sparkly vampires dats gay". The ones that critique it on a feminist level (which is about 10% of the criticism), I completely and emphatically agree with.

The problem for me isn't the patronizing of teenagers, it's the patronizing of teenage girls, exclusively. Girls need good role models, girls need to have their hands held through every kind of media they consume, girls need to be this way and that way, whereas "boys will be boys". That is bullshit, and there is really no denying that that is bullshit unless you really do think that girls aren't as smart/mature as boys.

I agree with all the stuff about how action movies have SJ problems too, and that's not what most of the criticism of Twilight is about.

Honestly, I am sick of the concern trolling WRT Twilight. Twilight is idfic, it's basically Stephenie Meyer's Kinks, The Book. Apparently a lot of ladies (some of them even teenagers!) share these kinks, which is why it's popular. But apparently girls are too stupid to enjoy kinky fantasy without ruining their lives over it.

I'm not saying the SJ issues in it should never be talked about--of course they should. But there's SJ issues with practically everything, as a result of our society being generally crap. There's a difference between discussing problematic elements, and concern trolling the fans.
