There was a lot about that episode that bothered me. Cadance and Shining Armor's sudden appearances has already been addressed in comments pretty well (even if I did grow to like the pun between Shining Armor's name being both the obvious and related to his defensive special talent and relation to Sparkle). I was going to complain about how odd it was that Chrysalis was able to use the love to take down Celestia (even if it was obviously going to happen; 'Celestia banishes the imposter to the moon and everyone sighs in relief at disaster averted' would be a terrible episode), but then I thought of it in an RPG format. (TL;DR at bottom.)

Let's assume Celestia is level 1000 (Celestia tier, powerful enough to raise sun/banish people to moon), while Chrysalis is normally level 20, being a queen and powerful shapeshifter. Let's say the Elements of Harmony are somewhere around 30, and an average pony is... two (powerful enough to fly/do magic/pull a house).

So a Changling gains power through love, especially love directed at them. Let's say 1 level for every pony expressing romantic love or deep friendship, .5 for every general 'friend', .25 for every casual acquaintance. Then double that if it's directed at her.

Chrysalis has been in Canterlot for a long time, planning the wedding and taking care of details and duping Shining Armor. Say Canterlot, a city in a world where everyone seems to love and care and live in harmony, has a population of 200 ponies. Say each pony has 4 friends and 2 really close friends/lovers. (Why they have two lovers, I can't say.) She's been exposed to a very good portion of the population, people coming and going for the wedding, which is a big deal and has attracted a lot of attention. Better, that attention is focused on HER; she's the blushing bridge, after all, so she has literally chains of people coming up to her and complimenting her, being excited, talking about love, thinking about love, for days. Even if we assume every time someone says or thinks 'I LOVE your x, Cadence', that's +1 level up, stacked up over days.

And then, if that weren't enough, she has Cadence's special talent, which is LITERALLY synthesizing love. She's a Rare Candy machine; Chrysalis just keeps casting +1 Love on herself over and over for days as the wedding's going on.

Then you get to the actual fight against real!Cadence, and it's not so much the fact that Cadence's love is more powerful than Celestia than that all the love for Chrysalis has been removed; everyone sees her for who she is, no love is directed towards her, and she can't synthesize +1 Love in her Changeling form. She's spent almost every single +1 that she stacked when preparing for the wedding taking down Celestia, and is getting only a fraction of what she once had back; she spent it faster than she's returning it, whereas Cadence is channeling it all into one big ol' love beam. So she's not taking down level 1001 Chrysalis, but level 100 or so; still powerful enough to lord it over ponies, but not enough to withstand a sudden onslaught of more love than she can absorb in one sitting.

So essentially TL;DR Chrysalis took down Celestia not due to one crazy-powerful thing but by the death of a thousand pokes.

you realize you just wrote a 238623587 word comment analyzing a childrens' cartoon engineered to sell sparkly toys to little girls, right?

nayrt.

There are other uses for the internet?

What? No way I didn't even notice I thought we were talking about politics? D: Oh wow I am so sorry how could I have made such a mistake.

And uh, you do realize that this post was at the bottom of a long chain of posts talking about said cartoon, at least a portion of which--I'm assuming based on LJ's layout--you opened and read through to get to this one, all apparently for the purpose of going on anon and pointing out 'YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT A CHILDREN'S CARTOON' as if the realization had suddenly dawned on you like a little kid just figuring out that the rainbow doesn't have purple in it. I mean I'm no professional here but I'm pretty sure that pointing out a counterargument to the OP's complaint after seeing they were apparently invested enough to create a secret with pictures is a little less pathetic than scrolling through a lengthy chain of comments just to go on anon and point out the topic of the secret when I'm pretty sure that everyone commenting already figured that out.

But congratulations, you get a gold star for having the processing power to deduce that MLP is in fact a cartoon for kids. Well done. I'd clap for you but I'm afraid you'd just be confused and startled by the sudden motion.
