Though there was a similar secret a while back, minus the dad thing, and everyone called that OP a lazy, stupid, fucker for even DARING to lie to work.

not really a double standard I think. Most people found this one cute because the father and daughter skipped work because watching the premier together clearly had great sentimental value for them and they bonded over it. Plus it actually was the weekend of her dad's birthday, so they didn't technically lie about that. That just wasn't the main reason they wanted off work.

The other person just sounds kind of sad. Maybe if they had skivved off work to watch it with their little brother or sister or something people wouldn't have mocked them.
