I hate how dismissive everyone in fandom is generally with underage smut fic. It's like they're constantly trying to validate their perversion by coming up with the excuse that they're fictional characters.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-02 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Many people in the fandom are not old. There are a lot of young writers and readers who don't see a problem with shipping young couples.

2) We don't need to validate anything. It's fiction, and we're certainly not doing anything wrong.

2.5) Just to piss you off: if Harry is old enough at 16 to fight in a war, why isn't he old enough to have sex?

3) Must be hard to walk with that stick constantly up yer arse, eh?

[identity profile] tweedisgood.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
He is old enough to have sex in the UK, including gay sex.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Kudos, people always forget this. The Americans tend to forget that not everyone follows their arbitrary Must Be 18 rule.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
So, let me get this right...you have a problem with underage sex, yes? So, do you object to it in film/tv? Because last time I checked, almost every show directed at teens has some kind of sexual content, often between two teenaged characters.

I can understand why you might have an issue with extreme underage, but, seriously, you're upset about people writing fic about what actually happens IRL and is easy to find on tv/in film?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I hate that people can't seem to differentiate fiction from reality.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
And unrelated to the content of the secret itself.

I hate that this seems to be the end all be all argument for so many debates.
Because no, apparently there is a not so small sized group of people that does not disconnect every emotion associated with fiction with its real-life counter part. And this isn't going to change with throwing these kind of sentences around, so maybe some self-analyzation and the avoidance of straw-sentence-word-vomiting should be practised to actually help the debate, not make everybody seem like a whiny child.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Okay so like
Thinking about something

and actually doing it

is different

And not everyone who reads smut with underage characters is actually even attracted to underage people. I like het porn with naked women doing naked dudes but I don't have any sexual attraction to women at all. Even though they are in the porn I'm watching.

Also, LOL THOUGHT CRIME.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, a lot of people writing fanfiction are still in their teens themselves so they wouldn't see anything disturbing about teen smut. It's their age group, and raging hormones, etc. I just stay away from everything that makes me feel uncomfortable.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
If I was raped as a child I get to read whatever I want, okay. Stop judging me.

*Blinks*
*Squints*
*Blinks again*

Am I reading this right?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Is there is a problem?

i didnt get this either.......

i also didnt appreciate the way you worded this...... 'well, i was raped so i can do this; dont judge me' is offensive......

and this is coming from someone who has been sexually abused

[identity profile] spiritlobo.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm with you on that, anon.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Doing" and reading something are two different things.
It's just words. Ideas. That's it.

You don't get to control which ideas I consume or expose myself to. Especially if I'm doing it as a way to cope with trauma.

Go picket Romeo[16]& Juliet[13), then.

+1

NAYRT

Actually, Romeo and Juliet being together is a) entirely reasonable in the context of it being set in the late 16th century, especially since it's explicitly stated that Juliet would not be the youngest girl ever married (and that there are mothers her age to boot) when Paris is asking Lord Capulet for Juliet's hand; and b) 16 and 13 isn't that big an age gap even in the 21st century, though the 13 part would likely be squicky to a random 21st century person in a first-world country just because "too young to get married and have sex", which I entirely agree with. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure they never managed to consummate the marriage, what with Romeo being banished a couple hours after they got married and all...

[I just finished reading the damn thing and I have a chip on my shoulder about remembering that different times have different moralities and so things do need to be looked at through that lens as well as asking if it would be morally wrong in the morality contemporary with the viewer, don't mind me.]

[identity profile] vethica.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
They spend a night together secretly before Romeo has to leave. I always figured the consummation happened then.

The thing is, as much as it might irk you the underage smut fic is usually read and written by underage people. I mean, I'm in the ATLA fandom and I stay far, far away from any pre-adult sexual ships. But I often find it's the younger fans who are on about it the most. So instead of: look out, pedo!- it's more often than not young people exploring their own sexualities by writing.

I realize this might still irk you - in fact, (pre) teen sexuality is still a huge taboo in out society. However, taboo or not, there are 12-year olds out there who masturbate - and it sort of makes sense they do it to characters around their own age.Hell, I'd be more worried if they fantasized about 40-year-olds.

+1 to all this
But I will say it gets hella awkward when you get a crush on a 14-year-old anime character when you yourself are 14 and then you keep getting older and that crush doesn't magically evaporate after you reach a certain arbitrary age point.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Human sexuality: making sure to confuse the hell out of you every step of the way.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
oh god yes

Or the character started out older than you and then you're technically old enough to be their parent.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
I have very shocking news for you:

Teenagers occasionally have sex.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-03 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
I was 13 when I wrote my (horrible) NC17-fic featuring two 14-year-olds. The hell does that make me?
