That's why people know it, it's JJ Abrams. The guy is a hack who has yet to have an original idea and has blown every rewrite he's ever tried. Last Trek movie skated by on novelty value and Nimoy only. It certainly wasn't due to plot (there was a plot?) or characterisation (here's an asshole, here's another asshole, asshole, asshole, asshole little asshole, asshole, asshole, llama) or SFX (any decent SFX was hidden in the lens flare).

Basically it was a repeat of The Phantom Menace only with Chris Pine instead of Jar Jar.

I absolutely love you for saying this. I thought I was the only one who hates that crappy reboot. It's Star Trek in name only. And I have a hard time recognizing that much.
