I got the original point. I'm recognizing the weirdness of not one other person here noting that the original actor wasn't Indian, either - so why does the actor have to be Indian now? You'd think if anything, he'd be Latino too.

why can't this be an opportunity to rectify the weird casting? If it was weird and racist last time, why can't it ve improved on this time? I don't think that 'well, the casting was fucked up in the 1960's so we should let it continue to be fucked' is reasonable logic.

Didn't say it couldn't be a chance - I'm just going by original casting and thinking it's odd they wouldn't at least look for an actor similar to the original in ethnicity. Considering how they tried to match the other actors to the originals fairly well.

Now, Singh as a woman would be awesome, if they wanted to make a change; preferably non-white, but I just want to see how that dynamic would work at all - gender change, that is.

Two wrongs don't make a right. RaceFail of the past does not excuse RaceFail of the present. If they haven't learned anything in 40 years then they should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

Because Khan was Indian? Not a hard concept to grasp.

And what's insulting that Cumberbatch is not an established Hollywood actor so that he's popular bullshit don't fly.

Plus it's extremely ironic there is Whitewashing in Star Trek, you know one of the first TV shows that dared to have POC in the cast in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement who also had its impact in social issues that became a tenet that passed on through each Star Trek incarnation? Like they dare showing Kirk and Uhura kiss (although it was under mind control) that send shockwaves through America for daring to show a White man and Black women kissing?

Seriously, this whitewashing shit really fucks with what Star Trek had stood for.
