Yes, I'm aware. I made that distinction in my comment. However, concrit is still going to have a negative aspect to it, otherwise it wouldn't be concrit. And I never said it was the readers' responsibility to help the author improve, but I think a person should be allowed to give an honest review without being attacked for it. If you don't want to give concrit that's fine, but if someone does want to they should also have that right as long as they are polite (flames are a different thing completely).

To be honest I think things are better as they are now. If I want critique, I can get a beta to check my work for me and talk it through in depth if I feel I need it. I would rather that than receive numerous comments from entitled reviewers pointing out everything that doesn't fit with what the commenter personally likes.

What if the "honest review" they give is 100% stupid? Why do you assume that every piece of concrit would improve the piece it's about?

I've gotten things like "I don't think this character should be gay. Here are tl;dr reasons why." or "I think you should change the whole point of the piece." or "You should add romance. It would be better with romance." - All without me asking for crit, by the way.

That kind of stuff doesn't deserve to be told off, just because it's "honest crit" from the reader who happens to be homophobic or missing the theme or just interested in romance?

Because that's different from actual concrit?

They didn't say concrit. They said honest review.
