I did this once (though it was for her original fiction, not fanstuff) and we're actually good friends now.

I think you should try to talk to her. As long as you don't act like somebody's number 1 fan in a stalker song, you probably won't seem weird! Just keep contributing your own stuff to the fandom, and don't get clingy if she doesn't seem to want to talk. BNFs are people too, and if you make a good first impression, then even if she doesn't want to talk right away you've got a better shot at her wanting to talk later, if you're both active in the same fandom and whatnot.

Um, I disagree, BNFs are stuck up snobs
They're nice to you one day, the next they don't even want to know you. I am speaking from experience

How many BNFs have you had this experience with?

People who think of themselves as BNFs, maybe.

People who are just good at making things and reasonably prolific about it, and who get a lot of fandom attention because people like what they do? Not really.

BNFs are individual people as opposed to one collective entity. As individual people, they can fall anywhere along the spectrum of asshattery.

And you don't seem like you'd come down clearly on the "pleasure to know" side, either.

Yes, I'm still recovering from a BNF abandoning me the way she did.
