But yeah, I do that now and then still. :)

Unless the water is a foot-over-your-own-height deep or less and you're pushing yourself up from the bottom of the pool or whatever, you won't be able to just launch your way out of the water in a straight shot. Try slowing down/stopping with your head just below the surface of the water, "kneel"/collect yourself in a little ball, and then use your arms and legs in one powerful kicking/upward stroking movement to push your body above the water. Won't be as dramatic as Ariel, but it should bring you pretty close with some practice. ;)

No, I was never nicknamed The Mermaid as a little girl for all the stupid pool stunts I did, nope, not me, I was a good little girl who never broke the pool rules or gave any of the adults on hand panic attacks with my antics...

I used to do that all the time, and while I still do sometimes, my hair's been cut short since then, and it doesn't makes as much of an impression. :(
