Heh, that was me with the X-Files. I didn't remotely give a shit about the conspiracy theory stuff, I just watched it for the monster of the week episodes.

Also, have you ever watched The First 48, OP? It's a reality show, so obviously it's not the same, but if you're interested in the crime-solving part, it might be worth looking into.

If only it wasn't narrated and shot (and musically scored) in that stupid, overly-dramatic way. I wish they'd quit doing that for so *many* shows.

I don't mind the music, but LOL, yeah, the narrator is a little bit unnecessary sometimes. Sometimes it runs a bit like this:

Witness: So I was walking to the store with my friend...
Narrator: The witness says that he walked to the store with a friend...

YES OKAY MR. NARRATOR.

I just love the moments where you're just like "ASDKLKAJSLDAKSKDJGA THAT'S THE SUSPECT'S CAR, OMG." The pieces of the puzzle are supposed to fit together, of course, but it's still exciting when they do.

Hee! Yes.

My daughter was watching 'First 48' on Netflix and the post-commercial 'summary of action so far' is so repetitive. Are the viewers really that incapable of retaining information for five minutes?

[identity profile] maiira.livejournal.com 2012-05-07 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I see that on a few other shows and it's like "yes, okay, we get it." I do make use of it, so to speak, when I've just turned the TV on or switched to it from another channel. Which, it occurs to me, may be the idea--it might not necessarily be meant for the viewers already watching, but ones who've just tuned in. Still, for viewers who've been paying attention the whole time you just kind of want them to get on with it already (especially since they ALWAYS cut to commercial just before the suspect is about to speak, or something ~SUPER DRAMATIC~ is about to happen--I know they do that to keep you watching, but gah!).

I do find it interesting when they do the "post-first-48" summary of events if just because each case differs so much. Some cases are started, conducted, and closed within the first 48, while with others it goes absolutely nowhere in the same amount of time.

Oh, yes. It's particularly irksome when the DRAMTIC REVEAL isn't all that dramatic or revealing.

Watching the five or so eps i could force myself to sit through, i was surprised at how *many* cases they actually cleared.
