I got the impression that the OP thought it was very hard to find that middle ground because their words were interpreted either as worshipful or creepy no matter what they said. I could be wrong.

Also that bit about BNF's being cliquey with each other - which I'm sure they don't all do, and certainly not always on purpose, but I'm also sure that it does happen, and it's a legitimate reason to be annoyed. No one likes cliqueish behavior, except sometimes the people in the cliques.

Personally I don't care that much about talking to BNF's, but I can see why this would be frustrating. If they're "just people" after all it would suck to not be able to communicate with them the way you communicate with other people.
