Since there was a thread about fics famous in fandom that aren't that great yesterday: what's the best fic you've read recently?

The standard "Naruto goes back in time and is super strong and stuff" fic, though in this one old!Naruto has a separate body and identity from young!Naruto. Old!Naruto (aka Haruka) is kind of a ridiculously awesome fixer sue, but something about the writing style/plot really makes it work for me personally. I mean, I know intellectually that Haruka's kind of a fixer sue, but that doesn't hurt the story at all, you know? It might bother other people though, and YMMV and all that. ^_^

Short and sweet, Obi-Want ended up in a different group as a Padawan then in canon, and as such he's picked up a few... Unfortunate habits.

The Pegasus Connection (http://archiveofourown.org/works/50495) by nomadicwriter. It's nice and long and it's one of those fics where everything just works. The plot takes a little while to really get going, but when it does, it's so fantastic.

It's a FFXII fic with Basch and Vossler. Shit is pretty awesome..and hot and I didn't even like FFXII.

Birthdays (http://korralations.tumblr.com/post/21610750933/) - Legend of Korra. A set of 16 drabbles from Mako's perspective, one for each of Bolin's birthdays.

The Perspective (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/224135/1/The_Perspective) - Animorphs. A fic from the point of view of a gay teen Controller, which I like both for the Controller stuff and the gay stuff. I also love the development of the relationship between the two main characters, and how it totally reads like it could have been one of the books. Ongoing.

Luminosity (http://luminous.elcenia.com/index.shtml) - Twilight. Everyone knows this one, but I've only just discovered it. A rewrite of the books, with the only change being that Bella is actually smart. Apparently there was a compelling story under there after all! Who knew.

I'd never heard of Luminosity before, and I figured I'd give it a shot. I have not yet read far enough to know for sure if I'll like it, but anyone who writes a sentence like "There was probably no genuine danger, but there could be, and part of my brain wanted to keep the fear in case it was importantly motivating later in a high-speed chase across campus." is clearly a person with a good grasp of how to prose. This looks really interesting, so I'm glad you mentioned it.

Loved the Korra fic, too cute! Luminosity is also really intriguing, I read a little bit and will bookmark it =3

Ooh, an Twilight fanfic where Bella's intelligent? This I must see.

Wow, I remember a friend linking me to The Perspective years ago and I've thought about it from time to time. I can't believe it's still around, let alone still being updated.

It's an epic reboot Kirk/Spock AU. I was wary at first because it's an AU of an AU, but five chapters in and I was hooked. It's engaging, well written, in character... you know, all the things a good fic should be.

Another reboot K/S. It is long and plotty, with a nice structure to the story and scorching slow burn on the romance.

Tangled by thingswithwings (http://archiveofourown.org/works/395859) (Community, Annie/Abed and Troy/Abed) - I really love how she approaches the character's sexuality here, in a very unique and nuanced way, and there are a lot of really sweet moments and really sexy moments.

Of High Drama and Ice Sculptures by HereThereBeFic (http://archiveofourown.org/works/387158) (Community, Troy/Abed+ensemble) I have a big thing for ensemble fics that involve my OTP for that fandom, and especially with Community since the study group relationship is the most important part of the show. This fic is the best I've read with that aspect. Troy and Abed's moments alone are super adorable too!

folkloric_feel (One Direction, Louis/Harry) This one just breaks my heart yet makes me happy? IDEK, but it's really great.

The two fics I'm most excited for right now are Homestuck WIPs. The first is As It Should Be (http://archiveofourown.org/works/249477/chapters/385691), an alternate-ending type fic in which the beta kids scratch the game at the end of Act V and are then somehow transported into historical Alternia where they interact extensively with the Ancestors of the main trolls (the Signless, Mindfang, Redglare, etc.)

The second might be my favorite fic rn. It's Contra Legem (http://archiveofourown.org/works/276602/chapters/438325), an AU in which an adult version of Terezi buys Dave as a slave. NOT sexual or kinky as it sounds like it might be, but they develop a deep emotional connection. It's excellent and I get excited whenever it updates. ^^ (to be fair, I get excited about both of them updating! AISB just came back form a long unintentional hiatus though.)

Currently I'm reading/obsessing over Prejudice and Pride (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7190230/1/Prejudice_and_Pride), a Tom/Ginny Harry Potter time travel fic that has no business being as addictive as it is. If you can just accept the cliche premise, the characters are a joy and there's an interesting plot beyond the developing romance.

I'd also like to recommend some excellent completed fic in smaller fandoms that don't get nearly enough love.

Natural Selection (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6197726/1/Natural_Selection) is a marvelously creative exploration of Haku's adaptation to the modern world. (Spirited Away)
