not to be all "omg I know them" but I used to be a friend of his. USED TO. The probelm is, for a while he came to believe in his own hype. You should pity him for that, but not hate him.

Truth? He is an evangelical christian, which means yes, he doesn't approve of homosexuality. If you feel better hating him for that, it's your hate-on. But people probably wouldn't be aware of that if rabid 13-year-old fangirls didn't run up to him and show him their Roy/Ed porn all the time.

I would be uncomfortable autographing Roy/Ed because the pairing is pretty much statutory rape? I don't think that's funny, but YMMV.

This isn't to defend Vic though. He is a homophobic ass who deserves to be called out on it (and personally, blacklisted from the con circuit for his behavior), and it's not just RoyEd he freaked out over. Who could forget FAI IS STRAIGHT HDU.

Even as a Roy/Ed shipper, I'm much more bothered by the Fai thing. Showing people porn of their characters is weird, andI can see why many people think it's wrong for non-homophobic reasons and there are legitimate issues that Roy/Ed shippers need to be aware of when writing or drawing that pairing. However, saying that one's character isn't gay by claiming he wouldn't do "weird stuff" is really homophobic, and that is what made me dislike him, not the anti-R/E stuff.

Yeah totally. There are reasons to be uncomfortable with RoyEd outside omg gay, basically. But his total insistence that Fai could NEVER LIKE DUDES and calling it 'weird stuff?' Hell no.

Pretty much. Travis is just one of those people who just takes the weirdness for what it is and doesn't really sweat it much. He loves fandom as much as he loves his job, and you can tell just by watching him at cons. Same with Scott McNeill, David Kaye, and Laura Bailey.

Vic is just an obnoxious tool, and exposing his bigotry for all the world to see is the reason I can't hate yaoi fangirls anymore no matter how annoying they are.

OT, but Roy/Ed being statutory rape a)depends on what laws the author is using as a reference, and b)depends on where in the timeline it's taking place. A lot of Roy/Ed fics are set post-series.

I realize this, but coming from an American point of view, a fifteen/sixteen year old and his almost thirty year old superior is yeah, statutory rape. Laws certainly vary, and I have no idea what the laws are in Amestris, but that's just the mindset I have due to the environment I was raised in. So I totally get being uncomfortable with having RoyEd porn given to you to autograph, Vic-ness aside.

Honestly giving any kind of porn to a voice actor is pretty rude, I feel (unless you definitely know their feelings on porn with fictional animated characters). But I don't really mind people giving Vic porn because he IS homophobic, and him being uncomfortable is pretty solid with me.

I agree, some fans need to learn boundaries and what is and isn't appropriate. That's why my comment was OT. I just get a little irritated at the implication that because he was underage in the series even Roy/Ed with a post-series 18+ Ed is statutory rape*. I understand being uncomfortable with it when Ed's younger.

*I mean in fic; art is trickier to pin down to an age.

Sort of wonder if people would take as much of a live-and-let-live approach to it if the reverse was something people just said upfront and bluntly, "I'm a homosexual, which means yes, I don't approve of evangelical Christianity." Something tells me that apart from a few SJWs jumping on it and making it their personal crusade, it wouldn't go over quite as well.

Yes, it's very unsettling when children show you porn of your character. There are ways to handle that without coming across as either a huge jerk or a huge homophobe, though, and if young, ill-behaved yaoi girls help alert the rest of us to who's homophobic and who isn't, then they play a vital role in the great ecosystem of fandom. If he's got the right to his opinions on homosexuality, then the fans- some of whom care a lot about equality, some of whom have queer friends and family, and some of whom are the homosexuals he doesn't approve of- have the right to their opinions about him. I'm not the type to go around bitching about him at inappropriate times, but I am glad it's public information now what kind of person he is.
