You see, I don't really understand people's attitudes to 13-17 year olds reading kinky fic. What's the difference between sexual exploration on porn websites (stories, videos, pictures) and sexual exploration in fanfiction? Do we all really think that teenagers would be delicate, unharmed flowers if they weren't corrupted by the HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE DEVIL WORSHIP SEX PARTIES EVERY DAY fandom?

I can understand being squicked by a 12-year-old reading fanfic, but that's only because I attribute "13" to "puberty", though I'm sure it starts earlier for some people. My thoughts are generally "If you're growing hairs down there, GIVE IT ALL YOU GOT"

Reading *kinky fanfic, sorry.

Personally, I don't care what minors do on their own. What I would care about is if a minor lied to me about their age in order to RP sexual situations, or read my smutty f-locked fanfiction, or discuss sexual topics with me, or something along those lines. Not because I think it's horrible for minors to be interested in sex, but because I could get in trouble if that person's real age is revealed.

I know irl you can get busted for having sex with a minor even if you thought he/she was of age, but if you are role playing or cyber sexing or whatever with no mentions of age and no actual solicitation of sex or expectations that you two will meet, then how could you get in trouble? Is there some sort of precedent that anonymous internet sex without actual sexual contact results in punishment by law? The people that get busted for "Internet sex" actually solicit meetings with a known minor for the purposes of having sex.

Does anyone want to risk being the precedent-setting case for that? =\

This.

They don't have to 'risk it' - there are people who do get convicted because they have cybersex with minors already. It would probably be considered 'grooming of a minor', which is something people can and do get convicted of. It's possible it might be filed under something else, relating directly to cybersex, but I think 'grooming' is generally what the conviction is. /used to run background checks and all that fun stuff

Considering how in my country a 15-year-old girl was convicted and entered into the sex offender registry for sending a photo of herself to her 15-year-old boyfriend? Hell no.

>in my country

America? 'Cause I'm pretty sure I've heard of that happening here, and it makes me very sad to think there's at least one other country out there that messed up. :(

(Anonymous) 2012-05-10 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. Thankfully I misremembered about her being entered - that happened to other kids :/

I fail to see the logic in that. I mean, sure, my friend and I RP:d smut with young teenagers... while we ourselves were young teenagers. The older we got, the older our characters got. It's not like most of us imprint on one person and base all our attractions on them for the rest of our lives, including their age.

It shouldn't be that hard to take circumstances into consideration when it comes to this.
